John B. Marion, IV grew up in West Palm Beach, received his Associate of Arts degree from Palm Beach Junior College in 1976 and his Bachelor of Science degree in finance from the College of Business Administration at the University of Florida in 1979. While attending the University of Florida, he was a member and President of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. He attended law school at Nova University, where he earned his Juris Doctor degree in 1982. Mr. Marion began his practice with the law firm of Jones & Foster, now Jones, Foster, Johnston & Stubbs, where he began defending and litigating personal injury and wrongful death claims on behalf of insurance companies, manufacturers, institutional clients, public utilities and railroads. By 1987 he became a shareholder, and in 1988 he and others left Jones & Foster and founded Sellars, Marion & Bachi, P.A. The parting was friendly and amicable, as Jones & Foster had decided to move in a different direction with respect to its business model. Mr. Marion has handled a wide variety of civil litigation matters over his 34 year career. While he started out strictly defending clients in personal injury and wrongful death actions, and still very much enjoys doing that work, he also represents injured parties and devotes significant time to litigating their cases as well as other matters more contractual and commercial in nature. He focuses his practice on litigating all forms of serious personal injury, brain injury and wrongful death claims, including by way of example those involving premises liability, premises security, automobile accidents, trucking accidents, tractor trailer under-rides and product liability, as well as legal malpractice, construction defect and all types of insurance-related matters, including bad-faith and coverage disputes. Mr. Marion enjoys volunteering time to mentor and provide leadership to youth and young adults. To that end, he is a former president (2006 – 2011) and current board member of the Gulf Stream Council, Boy Scouts of America, as well as the Chairman of the Housing Corporation and president of the board of trustees for the Alpha Omega Chapter of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity at the University of Florida (2007- present). He is admitted to practice law in all of Florida’s state courts as well as the United States District Courts for the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida. He is a member of DRI and the Palm Beach County Bar Association and holds Martindale-Hubbell’s AV® Preeminent™ rating, which is the highest rating issued by that peer review service. He has been recognized as one of the “Legal Elite” by Florida Trend Magazine and has been selected by the publication Super Lawyers for the years 2017 and 2018. With over 35 years of litigation experience, Mr. Marion focuses his practice on and enjoys the challenge of handling large exposure, catastrophic injury and complicated matters.
